Jamaica Positioned As Global Medical Marijuana HUB

Audley Shaw Jamaica’s Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries will be speaking Thursday night to Canada’s business community about Jamaica’s move to become the Medical Marijuana Hub of the World.
The Minister’s visit is being orchestrated by Timeless Herbal Care, a Canadian Jamaican producer of medical marijuana products and Bay Street’s Gravitas Financial Inc. The Jamaican delegation will also be meeting with banks, the Federal government and companies involved within Canada’s medical marijuana industry.
Minister Shaw told the Caribbean Camera yesterday that “Medical Marijuana is one of the fastest growing sectors in medicine globally. Jamaica must take its rightful place at the forefront of this significant industry with our own indigenous product that has outstanding purity levels higher than standards internationally.”
“Thousands of acres of land will be made available for the cultivation of industrial hemp (low in THc, high in CDB for medicine) as well as Green House planting which will play a major role,” said the minister.
This is a significant moment for Jamaica to establish itself as the Global hub for health and Wellness explained Courtney Betty, the president of Timeless Herbal Care. Timeless has been involved in Jamaica from working with the Government to create a legal framework to being one of the first fully integrated licensed companies to grow ganja. Jamaica is in a unique advantage with a strong brand, thousands of acres to cultivate and a commitment to science and product development.
Former Ontario Premier Ernie Eves has been working with Timeless Herbal care for years to expand the global potential for Jamaica. A huge demand from the investment community for seats for Minister Shaw’s address has caused a good problem for Gravitas. A bigger conference room at the Bay-Adelaide Center in downtown Toronto has been booked to handle the overflow crowd.
In addition to the Minister and the former Premier speaking to the business community, there are three other keynote speakers, Dr Yasmin Hurd, David Carbonara and Courtney Betty. Three high profile US profession sports figures; NFL great Lance Johnstone (Oakland Raiders), Marques Colston (NFL New Orleans Saints) and NBA’s Theo Ratliff (Philadelphia 76ers) are here speak as well about pain management for sports injuries.
Dr. Yasmin Hurd the Director of the Addiction Institute within the Mount Sinai Behavioural Health System and the Chair of Translational Neuroscience and Professor of Psychiatry and Neuroscience at the Icahn School of Medicine in New York. She will talk about her research into the effects of cannabis on the brain and potential new uses of the drug. She also has established a scholarship for medical students in Jamaica.
Mr. David Carbonaro is a founder of Gravitas Financial Inc. and is also a senior corporate financial lawyer, practicing securities, corporate finance and international law. He and his company have become investment experts in the rapidly growing business of Medical Marijuana and serve as key advisors to Timeless Herbal Care.
Canada is a preferred country as their laws are being liberalized and the technology is available to foster profitable partnerships between Canadian and Jamaican entrepreneurs,” said Minister Shaw. “ Our country historically has had the best “ganja” in the world. Now we want to turn medical ganja into a major industry for Jamaica and due to our tropical conditions, we can grow marijuana continually throughout the year.”
